Dr. Arun Kumarasamy is Head of the department of "Interventional Radiology" at the Krankenhaus Sachsenhausen (Hospital of Sachsenhausen) in Frankfurt.
Dr. Kumarasamy specialises in catheter-assisted, minimally invasive, procedures such as X-rays, ultrasounds, computed tomography or diagnostic angiography. In most cases, no anaesthesia is needed for the radiological interventions.
Closures of arteries or veins in the pelvic or leg arteries are most commonly treated. Patients with PAD (peripheral arterial disease) usually suffer from severe pain when walking, as well as at night. In the past it was necessary to operate the patients.
Today, in many cases, this can be avoided by the "keyhole procedure". Other benefits include quick recovery and only short hospital stays. This year we are investing in a high-tech angiography facility in order to expand the range of treatment.
