Join us for a life-changing experience in New York and learn about international politics and the art of diplomacy.

Frankfurt School Model United Nations (FS MUN) is one of the oldest and most prestigious initiatives at FS. We offer workshops and social events to prepare for participating at MUN conferences and connect with other delegates. Everyone can join to practice their negotiation and public speaking skills and participate at smaller conferences like MainMUN in Frankfurt.

The highlight is our yearly trip to the National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference in New York City. In this political simulation, students experience firsthand how the UN works and learn to engage in global issues. NMUN New York is the largest, oldest, and most prestigious university-level MUN conference in the world. For the NMUN conference in 2024, our delegation counted 38 selected participants throughout all study programs. We achieved several awards for position papers and in-committee performance. We also organize office visits and attend an FS alumni event every year, giving members unique networking and career opportunities in New York!

Model United Nations

What is it about?

Model United Nations conferences are academic simulations of the different UN committees. We roleplay the delegation of a specific country and represent their stance in the process of writing and passing resolutions. The goal is to learn about pressing issues in international politics, how the UN and international diplomacy functions, as well as practice public speaking, academic writing, and negotiation skills. Having researched the position of our assigned country beforehand, we discuss the agenda topics during simulated committee sessions of various UN bodies during the conference.

Who are we?

Our initiative counts over 120 members every year, with 30-40 of those joining us for NMUN New York! We are a mixed group of bachelor's and master’s students from all programs. We also have a team of 4 head delegates that help with the initiative's organization. Every FS student is invited to join us, but the best delegates are passionate about public speaking, negotiation, and collaboration. We look for members who are open-minded, respectful, reliable, and of course interested in international politics.

Role-playing a country

For Model United Nations a country is assigned to each delegation, which is usually not their home country. It is a fun challenge to familiarize yourself with another country in-depth, learn about its history, and understand what defines its people. The goal is to be able to work on your political position, determine possible allies, and stay in character during the conference. While maintaining a professional manner, delegates have to behave as it suits their country's position. Before and during the simulation, delegates dive much deeper into a country's culture and politics than is possible in school or university lessons.

Applying for NMUN New York

While everyone is invited to join us for workshops and social events, members interested in joining us for New York have to apply for a spot in our delegation. The biggest part of the application is the Workshop Weekend, a 2-day “mock” Model UN conference that we organize at Frankfurt School. We consider the attendance at preparatory meetings, the Workshop Weekend, and a short, written application to make the final decision.
