The Board of Trustees of the Frankfurt School Foundation has elected Alexander Doll as the new Chairman of the Advisory Board of Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. He will take up his new role on 1 December 2024 following Silvia Schmitten-Walgenbach, who held this position for the past three years. She will continue to play an active role in the Frankfurt School community.
Since his graduation from Frankfurt School in 1997, Alexander Doll has been a committed alumnus, serving on the Board of Trustees of the Frankfurt School Foundation, advising student initiatives and holding guest lectures.
“I would like to thank Silvia Schmitten-Walgenbach for her outstanding commitment to our Frankfurt School. Since her graduation in 1997, she has significantly contributed to our development, for example as Chairwoman of the Advisory Board, as a donor and mentor. I am particularly pleased that she will continue to accompany us,” says Professor Nils Stieglitz, President of Frankfurt School. He continues: “I am proud that we have once again been able to recruit an alumnus, Alexander Doll, to chair the Advisory Board. With his experience, international background and broad expertise, he will provide important impetus for Frankfurt School.”
Alexander Doll adds: “Frankfurt School’s development is impressive, today it is one of Europe’s leading business universities. I am delighted to have been asked to chair the Advisory Board and to contribute to the continuation of the university’s successful strategy.”

Alexander Doll
Alexander Doll serves as an Independent Board Member on a number of Supervisory and Advisory Boards such as Arriva Ltd, Ukrainian Railways and Remondis; he acts as an investor with a focus on technology and also advises Corporates, Families and Private Equity.
Alexander is a member of several business associations. He is, i.e., Board Member of the German Association of Logistics “BVL”, Baden-Badener Unternehmer Gespräche "BBUG", Board Member of Deutsches Aktieninstitut e.V. “DAI”; he serves on the Board of Trustees of Deutsche Sporthilfe and is a Patron of Deutsche Staatsoper, Berlin.
He is the former Group CFO of Deutsche Bahn AG and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of DB Schenker, DB Cargo and DB Arriva plc. Prior to joining Deutsche Bahn, he served as CEO for the DACH region at Barclays Bank PLC and held a variety of management positions at financial institutions like UBS and Lazard in New York, London and Frankfurt. Alexander studied Biology and Philosophy in Berlin, then Business Administration at Frankfurt School where he graduated in 1997. He also obtained an MBA from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
Silvia Schmitten-Walgenbach
Silvia Schmitten-Walgenbach has more than 30 years of experience in the banking and financial services sector. She held leading positions at CA Immo, Barclays, Morgan Stanley, Allianz Group and Deutsche Bank.
Silvia has always actively contributed to the financial sector and the Frankfurt financial center. She was chairwoman of the Board of the Association of Foreign Banks in Germany and member of the Exchange Experts Commission and is a regional board member of the Financial Experts Association. As chairwoman of Hand in Hand International in Germany, she is also committed to promoting women as entrepreneurs in developing countries.
