Frankfurt School alumnus Carsten Schmitt was today appointed Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to the Management Board by the Supervisory Board of Commerzbank.

Two Frankfurt School alumni are now members of the Commerzbank Management Board: Carsten Schmitt and Michael Kotzbauer. He is Deputy Chairman of the Management Board and responsible for the Corporate Clients business segment.

Carsten Schmitt succeeds Dr Bettina Orlopp, Chief Financial Officer of Commerzbank since March 2020. She also held this position when she took over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on 1 October. The CFO change is to be completed by spring 2025 at the latest.
Carsten Schmitt is moving from Danske Bank back to Commerzbank. As Executive Vice President, he has been responsible for Group Strategy and M&A at Danske Bank since 2021. Prior to this, he spent 20 years at Commerzbank in various positions. Most recently, he was Head of the Group Finance segment from 2019 to 2021. He graduated from Frankfurt School in 2003.
